Shandong Normal University (SDNU) is located in the historical and cultural city, Jinan, the capital city of Shandong Province. Based on Qilu culture and humanity of Spring city, it adheres to the spirit of “Respect for the virtuous, Strive for success” and the motto of “Uphold morality, fortify your dream, pursue knowledge, and then put them into practice”. Through consciously inheriting and innovating Qilu culture, and making efforts to highlight Teacher’s Educating Feature, SDNU has developed into a comprehensive and advanced normal university and gained an excellent social reputation with various subjects and majors, a complete degree system, and abundant teaching talents.

History

The history of SDNU can be traced back to the Normal School of Ancient Shandong University in 1902.In October 1950, built with the education school of the original East China University and the Administrative Cadre School of Shandong Province, Shandong Normal College became the first undergraduate college of Shandong Province since the founding of new China.In 1952, schools of physics, chemistry and biology of Qilu University were integrated into our university. In September 1970, some agencies and departments moved to the city of Liaocheng, and then were relocated to Jinan in April 1974. In March 1981, the university was identified as a provincial key institution of higher education; in August of the same year, the university’s name was changed to Shandong Normal University.In November 2012, the University was included in the first batch of famous universities with characteristics aiming to cultivate application-oriented talents in Shandong Province. In March 2014, the University was approved as an institution of higher education built by both Shandong Province and the Ministry of Education. In November 2017, the school was awarded the first national civilized campus. In 2020, SDNU was selected as a high-level university in Shandong Province to build a first-class university.

Education

SDNU has two campuses, which are Qianfoshan Campus and Changqinghu Campus, covering a total area of nearly 3,850 mu (about 2.56 million square meters) and a building area of about 1.35 million square meters. There are 1 national virtual simulation experimental teaching center, 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 1 provincial and ministerial collaborative innovation center for higher education, 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, 1 engineering research center of the Ministry of Education, 1 key research base of humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, 7 key laboratories of Shandong Province, 1 engineering laboratory of Shandong Province, 1 big data laboratory of Shandong Province, 6 engineering technology research centers of Shandong Province, 4 key research bases of social science theories of Shandong Province, and 2 research bases of Shandong Province,1 Shandong Provincial Key New Think Tank, 5 Shandong Provincial Higher Education Collaborative Innovation Centers (including 1 demonstration center), 7 Shandong Provincial Higher Education Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers, 9 Shandong Provincial 13th Five-Year Plan Higher Education Research Innovation Platforms, 2 Shandong Provincial Bases for the Inheritance of Excellent Chinese Traditional Culture, 1 Shandong Provincial Social Science research center. The library has a construction area of 64,400 square meters, a collection of more than 3,428,000 paper books and journals, more than 1,410,000 electronic books, and 206 databases and learning and research platforms.

Complete disciplines

There are 22 colleges (departments), 67 undergraduate majors, 13 post-doctoral research stations, 15 first-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degree, 1 authorized point for doctoral degree, 35 first-level disciplines authorized for master's degree and 19 authorized points for professional degree, covering ten disciplines, and the number of disciplines and professional degrees is among the top in provincial universities. There are 1 national key discipline and 1 national key discipline (cultivation), 7 disciplines are ranked in the top 1% of the ESI database, 6 disciplines are in the construction of high level disciplines in Shandong Province, 2 of which are in the construction project of "peak disciplines", and 1 discipline is in the construction of high level disciplines and cultivation disciplines in Shandong Province. 13 disciplines were ranked B in the fourth round of national discipline evaluation, which is the best result for universities in Shandong province. 24 disciplines were listed in the 2022 Soft Science China Best Discipline Ranking, of which 6 disciplines ranked first in the province and 6 disciplines ranked first in the provincial universities. In the global nature index ranking, the university has been ranked first in Shandong province for 6 consecutive years, and ranked 38th in mainland China in 2022. SDNU has 9 national specialty construction points, 40 national first-class undergraduate specialty construction points, 11 first-class undergraduate specialty construction points in Shandong Province, 6 majors (groups) have been approved as key majors (groups) for high-level application-oriented construction in Shandong Province, 2 majors (groups) have been approved as Shandong Province Education Service for New and Old Kinetic Energy Conversion Professional Matching Industry Project, and 7 majors have passed the second-level certification of teacher training majors.

SDNU has founded a Basic Education Group. Middle school, the second middle school, and a primary school attached to SDNU are provincial standardized schools and provincial civilized campuses.The Basic Education Group is committed to promoting the balanced development of education, and actively carries out the business of foreign cooperative education, operating more than 60 schools, covering 12 cities in the province and radiating outside the province to Guangdong, Yunnan, Xinjiang, Tibet, etc., benefiting 130,000 students.
