TIPSY IN THE FLOWERS’ SHADE
Li Qingzhao李清照
Thin is the mist and thick the clouds, so sad I stay.
From golden censer incense smokes all day.
The Double Ninth comes now again;
Alone I still remain In the curtain of gauze, on pillow, smooth like jade,
Feeling the midnight chill invade.
At dusk I drink before chrysanthemums in bloom;
My sleeves are filled with fragrance and with gloom.
Say not my soul Is not consumed. Should western wind uproll
The curtain of my bower,
‘Twould show a thinner face than yellow flower.
Visiting an Old Friend
By Meng Haoran (Tang Dynasty)
My friend’s prepared chicken and rice,
He invited me to his cottage hall.
Green trees surround the village nice;
Blue hills slant beyond city wall.
Windows open to field and ground;
O’er wine we talk of crop of grain.
On next Double Ninth Day,
I’ll come round,
For his chrysanthemums again.
Thinking of My Brothers on the Double Ninth Festival
By Wang Wei (Tang Dynasty)王维
Alone, a lonely stranger in a foreign land,
I doubly pine for kinsfolk on a holiday.
I know my brothers would, with dogwood spray in hand,
Climb up mountain and miss me so far away.

Climbing the Height登高
By Du Fu (Tang Dynasty)
The wind so swift, the sky so deep, sad gibbons cry;
Water so clear and sand so white, backward birds fly;
The boundless forest sheds its leaves shower by shower;
The boundless river rolls its waves hour after hour.
Far from home in autumn, I’m grieved to see my plight;
After my long illness, I climb alone this height,
Living in hard times, at my frosted hair I pine;
Pressed by poverty, I give up my cup of wine.
